Healthy Eating Tips for Busy People | Kelly Hansard | Austin, TX

Making healthier choices can sometimes be a lot easier said than done. Some people are so busy that they don’t have time to make good choices about what they eat. They end up with fast food, processed food, and other unhealthy options. But here are a few tips for making healthier eating choices!

Prepare Meals Ahead of Time

Meals that can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator or freezer are great for busy people. Some ingredients can be pre-chopped or prepared, so they only need to be heated up. For example, if a person has hard-boiled eggs on hand, they can quickly make an egg salad sandwich for lunch or dinner. Grocery stores often sell pre-made salads that can also be used in a pinch.

Stay Hydrated

Dehydration is a leading cause of poor health. When people are busy and don’t have time to drink enough water, they often become dehydrated. Dehydration leads to headaches, dry skin, and excessive thirst. Staying hydrated helps people stay energetic and keeps them in good health. The easiest way to stay hydrated is to make sure a person has a full water bottle.

Have Healthy Snacks Readily Available

A person who is busy and on the go will often reach for unhealthy snack foods. It’s essential to keep healthy snacks readily available. Perfect examples of healthy snacks are fresh fruit, nut butter, and a piece of whole-grain bread. Popcorn is also a healthy option for movie nights or watching games on TV.

Wash, Cut Up and Store Vegetables in the Fridge

An easy way to promote healthier eating is by making healthier choices more accessible. It’s easier to eat vegetables if they’re already cleaned, cut up, and ready to go. When it’s prepared and ready to eat or cook with, adding more vegetables to your meals is much less of a hassle.

Keep Healthy Foods Handy in the Car

Sometimes snacks get eaten before they make it into the house. To avoid this, keep healthy snacks handy in the car and office. A bag of carrots, celery sticks, or other crunchy foods can be placed in the front seat or a desk drawer at work. An apple or banana, yogurt, bag of nuts, or a bottle of water are great for grabbing on the go.

Chew Food Thoroughly

People are often in a hurry and eat too fast. This leads to symptoms of indigestion and heartburn, which are two hallmarks of unhealthy eating. Chewing food thoroughly helps it move through the digestive tract to be broken down and properly digested. For more information, visit HOME.

In conclusion, it’s important to take time to prepare healthy meals and snacks. Good choices about what to eat can be made in the most stressful situations.

Airline Etiquette for Frequent Flyers | Kelly Hansard | Austin, TX

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, there were 146 incidents on airlines in 2019. In 2021, there were 1,081 investigations of incidents involving unruly passengers. Obviously, there are problems with passengers who don’t know how to behave in a respectful manner. In an era when mask mandates, TSA checks, and other inconveniences are already causing stress, this lack of good manners just makes the situation worse.

What is a traveler to do? Here are some ways to make air travel more pleasant for yourself and those around you:

Always Be Prepared

Make sure you have all of your paperwork in order. When you get in line at airport security, anticipate taking off your shoes or removing metal objects so you do it before you can cause delays.

Respect Your Flight Attendants

It’s always good to offer the flight attendants a smile as you board your flight or give a greeting. Their jobs are a lot tougher these days and it’s important to be as respectful as you can be. It will make the flight a lot easier and more enjoyable for both of you.

Don’t Take Over the Overhead Bins

The bins are for everyone to share. If you have too much luggage, consider checking some of it. Also, put your bag over your own seat instead of just shoving it in the first space you see.

Be Considerate to the Person Sitting Next to You

You’ll be spending a few hours with the person sitting next to you, so it’s always a good idea to give a pleasant greeting. If they want to talk and you do as well, great. But if they indicate they want to be left alone – don’t impose on them. Similarly, if you want your space, you can politely let them know.

Also, give the middle passenger the armrests. One passenger gets to look out the window, the other has access to the aisle – what does the middle passenger get? Graciously let them have the armrests.

Don’t Stink Up the Plane

There are a few ways to ensure it’s a pleasant flight for everyone––be mindful of certain odors. Firstly, don’t bring smelly food on board, take off your shoes if your socks have a strong odor, and keep in mind that the perfume you love may trigger someone else’s allergies, so don’t use too much.

When to Recline Your Seat

Feel free to recline during the flight but be mindful to put your seat back in the upright position during mealtimes. If the person behind you requests that you not recline so deeply, try to accommodate them.

Planning the Perfect Themed Party | Kelly Hansard

A themed party is a great way to celebrate key events and occasions. It can be a great way to involve everyone and make the event memorable. Bobby McGee’s, a unique event venue in Melbourne, has helped create some of the most memorable themed parties around. They talked about some of their tips and tricks for making the most of themed events.

Use Themed Invitations

It is important to create an invitation that sets the tone for the event and guests. If the event requires a certain dress code, this should be the place to set expectations. Some examples of invitation themes include Disney, retro, Las Vegas, or circus carnival.

Choose a Venue That Will Match the Theme

Before you decide on a venue, make sure that the venue allows you to style the room. Doing so saves a lot of time and money. Also, be sure to ask about the time constraints that you will have to set up the venue. If you are not able to do so, the pressure of organizing the best event ever will be on you.

Ideally, the venue should be central and easily accessible. Before choosing a venue, check if it can be reached by public transport or has car parking.

Be Sure Venue is Large Enough

The size of the group is also a factor to consider when choosing a venue. It should be able to accommodate guests with varying numbers. If the venue is too big for your event, try incorporating some styling features that can make it feel smaller. For instance, a large backdrop or a clever lighting design can help make the space look bigger.

Immerse Guests in the Theme

The success of a themed event depends on how well the guests are immersed. For instance, if the theme is Hollywood Glitz, make sure the guests feel like they’re in a lavish nightclub. Having the right food is also an important aspect of a successful party.

Not only does it help to serve up good food, but it also adds a fun and unique touch to the event. A signature cocktail is a great way to start the party, but make sure that non-alcoholic drinks are also available.

Encourage Guests to Dress According to Theme

Encourage guests to come in dressed up, which can help build momentum and increase anticipation for the event. This can also help make the day and event more memorable.

Tips for Growing as an Engineer | Kelly Hansard

A career in engineering can be challenging, especially if it’s your first job. It can be hard to find the time and energy to grow. Here are five tips to help you get started on your path of growth.

Find and Close Gaps

It’s common to get confused with technical terms in meetings, especially when your teammates are throwing around terms. Learning to acknowledge the lack of knowledge can help you get on with the job.

When catching phrases that are repeated several times, it’s important to pay attention to what’s happening to keep track of important details. Having a diverse team can help you identify people who have the skills necessary to solve problems. Doing this is a great way to improve your knowledge in engineering, as it can expose you to new projects and ideas.

Take Ownership of Something and Make it Yours

Take ownership of a project and work on any tasks that are related to that area. This ensures the work is being done correctly and that the team is communicating with each other about the progress.

One of the easiest ways to recharge your trust is by delivering the work that you’re committed to. This ensures your team is aware of what’s happening and you’re communicating effectively with them.

Share What you Know With Others

One of the best ways to measure how much you’ve learned is by teaching someone else about the topic you’ve learned. This method works even better if you’re able to explain it to someone who has little or no prior knowledge of the topic.

Track Your Progress and Share It

It’s important to make sure all team members know what’s happening with you and what you’re learning. This ensures everyone is aware of what’s happening with you and what you’re achieving.

Being an advocate for yourself is a must-have in today’s world. Having a good example of your work to share is a great way to get recognized for it.

Become a Leader and a Mentor

After a long time of training, volunteer to be a mentor or a buddy to an intern. They’ll learn valuable skills and experience new things, just as you did. Doing these will help build your leadership skills.

You have to be intentional about your professional development goals to achieve them. Creating a professional development plan is a great way to set yourself up for success.

How to Pass Time on a Flight | Kelly Hansard

No matter the time or distance, flying can be tough to get through. Sitting in one place for hours with not much to do is never fun, but there are many ways to pass the time. Here are some of the things you can do to pass the time while on your next flight:

Watch movies

This is the perfect time to watch the movies on your wish list and catch up with those you have missed. Most airlines have multiple movie selections nowadays. If you have a specific movie you want to watch, download it before the journey and store it on your device. Also, carry your backup headphones, although most airlines offer them for long flights.

Read a book

Grab a book at the airport stores before the trip. There are many excellent books from writers like Ted Conover and Pico Iyer, to name a few that can help you while away the time. Travel books are a great way to keep your spirits high if you are traveling.

Prepare a playlist of your favorite music that will help pass the time on your trip. However, airlines also have a music collection on many channels that you may like. To be safe, bring along your device.

Play games

Challenge yourself with your favorite games and puzzles. When you solve puzzles, you enjoy, and at the same time, you idle away time. You can play games via apps or books with pages of puzzles from a bookstore.

Also, you can play card games with your seat-mate if they are great in them. Depending on your packing restrictions, an electronic gaming device can come in handy, like the portable Sony Playstations.

Do some in-seats workouts to help increase your blood circulation and prevent any possible blood clots during long flights. Get up and move around the cabin to help break up the flight time. Look for workouts that help stretch muscles during long flights online.

Talk to someone

Starting a conversation with your neighbor may not sound good because not everyone is open to talking. To engage in a conversation, take note of your neighbor’s tone and body language. Engaging in conversations with a stranger can be an exciting experience to pass the time.

Cybersecurity Predictions for 2022 | Kellly Hansard

As the world prepares to exit the pandemic, many businesses are still grappling with the uncertainty of how technology will play a role in the new normal. Due to the complexity of today’s infrastructures, many businesses are also vulnerable to new threats.

As a result, CSOs must help their organizations keep up with the regulations. The recent uptick in attacks and network vulnerability has caused many CSOs to face significant challenges in the year ahead. Below are some cybersecurity predictions for the coming year.

1. Companies To Prioritize Responsible Sourcing and Supply Chain Resiliency

Threat actors are becoming more focused on breaching the supply chain, which is almost inevitable. According to a survey conducted by Gartner, 60% of organizations will use security risk as a primary factor when it comes to conducting business engagements.

Before they renew contracts or add new suppliers, companies should draft policies that explicitly state that their vendor will be responsible for any third-party attacks.

2. Privacy Legislation Will Pick Up Around the Globe

Modern privacy laws will cover the personal information of about 75% of the world’s population by 2020, according to a prediction report by Gartner. As privacy regulations are enforced, organizations should also consider their data collection and storage locations.

3. Increase in Hiring of In-House Compliance Officers

As companies comply with the new regulations, they will need to hire more compliance officers to help them navigate through the complex regulations. The right people can help companies navigate the complexity of the regulations and translate it into real business value. This is exactly what we need in today’s world.

4. Insider Threats and Employee Engagement Will Be Affected by Bossware

Due to the rise of remote working, especially since the pandemic, the use of tools that allow supervisors to monitor employees has raised concerns of employee distress and decreased employee engagement.

The rise of employee backlash will cause firms to overreach and reduce the scope of their insider threat programs, which could lead to increased risks.

5. Cybersecurity Costs Will Soar

Cybersecurity insurance will continue to be more expensive due to the increasing number of attacks and the rising cost of providing security. According to Constellation’s Miller, the rising prices are partly due to the increased number of attacks and the fear of losing all of their coverage.

Packing Essentials for Traveling Overseas | Kelly Hansard

Traveling does wonders for the soul. It allows you to become familiar with other cultures and meet new people.

When planning to go on an adventure, it’s important to pack all of the things you’ll need. If you wait until your plane lands, it can be complicated to acquire important items that will make your stay comfortable. Different languages and currencies might make shopping awkward. It’s better to purchase everything before you leave. Important things you should pack when traveling overseas include:

Appropriate Clothing

When packing your suitcase, keep in mind the weather at your destination. Even if you’re headed someplace tropical, it’s good to take a sweater because airplanes are chilly. Warm countries can reach low temperatures at night, making it handy to pack layers.

Masks & Sanitizer

Though more people are traveling, there is still the risk of the virus. This is why it is imperative to take precautions now more than ever. If you’re planning to go on an airplane, don’t forget to take a mask and sanitizer with you. Pack these in your suitcase so you’ll have them at hand when exploring. We all love adventures, but it’s important to be safe!

Personal Toiletry Items

Things such as shampoo and toothpaste are often overlooked when packing for vacation. The comfort of having these personal items will eliminate stressful shopping trips in foreign lands. Some handy things you can take in your handbag include mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner, a small hairdryer, and plastic bags for laundry.

Travel Power Adaptor

Foreign countries often have different power outlets on their walls. Do your research and find out if your destination requires a travel adaptor. Buy it before you leave the country. Make sure you’re prepared so you’ll avoid worrying about whether you’ll be able to charge your phone in the hotel.

A Reusable Water Bottle

Pick a sturdy, reusable water bottle that you can take while hiking or visiting the beach. This reduces waste and keeps refreshment close at hand.

Traveling is one of the great joys of life, but mishaps with packing can take some of the fun out of it. Learn to pack for your next vacation. If you cover the essentials, you’ll return with good memories!
